Quentin Tarantino is back with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. It's got Brad Pitt, Leonardo, Margo Robbie, and Bruce Lee & Charles Manson (no, really). Most everyone liked it and it was up for Best Picture, but it still has sins. So we counted them.
Next week: Recent-past horror & recent narration.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Brilliant. Tarantino finally being shamed for the sell out artist that he is!

    2. Wilnir Ressutti

      This movie sucks so much!!

    3. Thomas A

cinema sins sins probably the best movie of the year for 20 minutes but only has 4 or 5 legitimate sins

    4. VJ CatGirl

I hate this movie. It really feels like the director is just living through Cliff, wanting to beat Bruce Lee in a fist fight and wanting to save celebrities from the Manson family. At least that’s how it feels to me. It was way too long and bored me to death.

    5. isonic

For me this movie has aged like fine wine over just a few months. The first time I saw it in theatres I wasn't too sure whether I really enjoyed it or just like it. Mainly I feel because I had no real background knowledge of the Manson murders which cut some of the final scene tension for myself. But I couldn't stop thinking about the film Now after doing extensive research and watching it again in 4K its become one of my favourite films of all time. I enjoy everything about this film, it's just a gourmet feast of cinema about characters you really care about.

    6. seth woodrow

I feel like you don’t really understand Tarantino well enough to do this, it’s aggravating to see how much stuff you don’t get

      This is a great movie

    8. AvEryBadApPLe

      Do Deliverance! >_

    9. nick butler

Cinemasins is a fucking joke at this point . I remember when it was a big deal that the video for “The Room” was over 7 minutes because of all the stuff they had to fit in, and now each movie is 20 minutes of nitpicking a movie to death. Some of these “sins” are things he likes about the movie, and you could honestly sit down with ANY movie and literally find glaring mistakes with all of them. This channel is a joke

    10. racoonv

      That was stupid.

    11. ja maguire

5:57 Rebecca Gayheart (in real life) was convicted of manslaughter (killed a 9-year-old boy in a traffic accident), but did zero time. Maybe this is QT's way of paying her back for her incredibly light penalties for the incident.

    12. ja maguire

4:46 It's not Feb 1969. This is part of Cliff's flashback to the week Rick was on The Green Hornet. The Green Hornet ran one season in 1966-67, and thus was filmed from summer 1966 through spring 1967. Furthermore, we know it's the first 3 months of 1967, because Irwin Allen's The Time Tunnel -- which also ran one season in 1966-67 -- had two late-season episodes that featured space aliens sporting silver-colored spacesuits & silver skin . . . and three of these 'spacemen' walk across the Fox lot as Cliff sits in the golf cart outside Rick's trailer. The notion that a Tora! Tora! Tora! billboard is showing up in early 1967 is another clue that we are in a parallel reality in which Tora! Tora! Tora! gets made much earlier than 1970.

    13. ja maguire

0:35 There's a good reason for this. Read up on "The Towering Inferno" (1974) and the producer's dilemma regarding the positioning of Steve McQueen vs. Paul Newman's on-screen credit.

    14. Austin Lee

His voice sounds hella different wtf

    15. Tuna Phish

Sins the 90 second scene of Cliff driving home from Rick’s house. Me: wait that was my favorite scene in the movie haha

    16. Kita Lupus

      Yogurt from spaceballs saying schwarz

    17. Kacey Howell

At 18:21 when the 69 seconds came on screen, the sin counter should have said *+7, Nice*

    18. Preskata.J

      fuck your stupid videos.

    19. Aedan Garza

If confused or details and poster are wrong for the date two words Tarantino’s universe

    20. moonknight778

I just came for the Bruce Lee sin. Scene ruined the movie for me

    21. Robbie Allan

it deserves too many sins too count, got what was coming in this picture

    22. Codi Guagliardo

During the Bruce Lee fight scene, the people in the background disappear

    23. Tim Galligan

I’ll save you 20 mins....nothing is wrong with the movie.

    24. David King

Not for nothing, but how have you guys not Sin'd True Romance yet?

    25. mark merzweiler

Not a sin, but worth mentioning. Playing of "Baby, you're out of time" as Sharon eats a meal. Knowing in real life, time had run out for her and her baby.

    26. Mick Prewett

Also at the 7.44 part of your critique here, in the film Timothy Olyphant is first standing talking to deCaprio and his hat is off then suddenly its on his head then off again. I don't understand how this was missed in the editing of the film. Or perhaps it was done on purpose?

    27. Cooking With Winter

Just gonna ignore the fact that the Asian Manson killers death scene was basically just Elle Drivers death but with added flamethrower fatality

    28. Byron Daniel Villada Magaña

i have a problem with the bruce lee scene, because he defends hes character saying that bruce lee is arrogant and cocky, bruce lee daughter step in saying that bruce lee worships muhammad ali, and she is right, and tarantino ends with a lie in this movie forever.

    29. Cecilia

When my brother went to see it he said that an hour and a half through the movie he didn’t know what it was about

    30. Smashgrav

The sudden narration made me think we had a second sinner and I was excited, but then disappointed, so I am adding an additional sin of my own out of spite.

    31. Franco Liles

I honestly feel that Brad Pitt fighting Bruce Lee was to make you feel confident in his fighting skills later in the film. Like not caring about all the hippies that could've jumped him or when he was high.

    32. redsoxu571

I'm not sure I get obsession by CinemaSins (and a lot of the moviegoing public in general) to make out that having protracted or slower portions to movies is "bad" by default. No, OUATIH is not a rollicking good time I would automatically drop everything to watch if I stumbled across it on television, but the slowness of most of the film serves a purpose: beyond fully immersing us in the setting (which is pretty enjoyable to see by itself), it also distracts us from the underlying Manson plot...and then when the would-be killers arrive at the scene, suddenly we have to face the idea that these two characters we've come to get to know and (probably) like are about to get murdered instead of what historically happened...or, worse, we will experience the actual historical murder from the perspective of our protagonists. And THAT then does a complete 180 moments into when they break into the home and it dawns on us that this is a wish fulfillment fantasy in which bad guys get what's coming to them and everything works out okay. I was actually floored at the end of the film, in a good way, and that's worth something. On another note, this video missed the point of Brad Pitt's character and the wife - the person the character is based on MIGHT have killed his wife, but the truth is unclear and probably always will be. That little tidbit in the film is just another cameo of a Hollywood story (hence the title), suggesting that he might have killed his wife without actually telling us whether he did or didn't. Heck, given the final shot of the flashback, it's possible he even accidentally killed his wife, if the blowgun or whatever that was went off by accident while pointed at her.

    33. I-YELL- A-LOT

    34. Marius Dogaru

Uh... it's not a flashback. Sorry, pal. You know what I mean. Bruce Lee and Cliff. It's not a flashback. It is a tiny "what could have been" arc made up entirely by Cliff

    35. Phar Queue

For someone who Sins movies for arbitrary systems, the Bonus Round counting system seems awfully arbitrary. I'm sure there was a reason to state the time spent driving by named characters, and not use that as the Bonus Round score. What was that reason?

    36. Jaroslav Keprt

I made it through two minutes of this. Really not funny, I am out.

    37. Helgali

Disservice on Bruce Lee's memory and rewriting of Polanski's wife death REALLY pissed me off. Also, focusing on that Mason girl's ass at the car.

      1. isonic

The rewriting of Sharon Tates death was the whole fucking point of the movie you idiot. It's titled once upon a time in Hollywood because she got a fairytale ending

    38. Florian Rothe

wait...san andreas played in the 90s!?

    39. Ary

17:00 there is no way anyone on psychedelics would have the mental capacity to pull off everything done here

    40. Gigi Pujals

Can’t believe you didn’t sin Uma Thurman’s daughter being cast in a Tarantino film

    41. SurfK9

Dude 11:45 the Spahn Ranch scene, you were waaay off the mark for suspense. Shorty Shae was a stuntman and went to the ranch in 1969 to see his friend George. The guy Pitt punches is Steve Grogan. Grogan killed Shae, his body was discovered in 1977. It was a prelude of "once upon a time" for Sharon living that Pitt lives his little "once upon a time". The relief of him driving off and living is the same as when in the end Sharon lives. Both are " once upon a time" and we feel good for a moment only to realize they both died. Masterful!

    42. sogerc1

Another bonus round for all the feet? And I feel like way too few "movie has time for this" sins were added.

    43. Andrew Farley

      Foot bonus round

    44. Green Boys

9:13 have you not seen "Have Gun - Will Travel"?

    45. Hanna Ström

1:22 the best thing with having a cinema as second home. You know exactly what it is

    46. scorpion3128

Completely agree that the ending is makes reality feel more tragic. That's exactly how I felt when I saw the movie. Like yeah, it was GREAT to watch the Manson's get violently murdered, to get that sense of Justice and enjoy the primal cathartic release, but then the actual ending just makes you think of everything that could've been.

    47. soba

please do sully his wife really annoyed me

    48. Kari Jaroszynska

The driving sins are invalid - the whole driving thing in the movie is perfect. It captures the essence of LA, namely wasting time driving everywhere lol

      1. Very Epic Gaming

        It’s a joke

    49. I AM BAYTOR

You have to be an idiot to sin the head slamming scene. That was one of the best scenes of ever.

    50. Josh Bobst

Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who is not interested in learning the story of the Manson family. Wouldn't I be immersing myself in moral entropy by learning about it? Sigh. Must I?

    51. Raz Yizhack

All the thing here with the years of movies that appears in billboards after 69, Tarantino himself said that its not the point if something is year here or year before its dosent really matters..

    52. Ed Benti

In 1969 Hispanics were not treated very well by Hollywood. The Chinese actor Bruce Lee was treated very well by Hollywood. This film reverses these truths. These portrayals are anachronistic and likely reflect the current fact that Hispanics are a growing and powerful demographic today and the Western Powers are going hard after anything Chinese.

    53. Bryce Tharp

This movie was amazing. I watched an hour of this movie AND THEY HADN"T GOTTEN TO THE STORY YET!!!! Seriously it was 90% of people walking and driving in cars. All the while I was looking for something to worry or care about. And I thought, Did Tarantino say that he could make a movie with a script.

    54. Oxdox

Forgot to add 300 sins for the most boring movie ever made

    55. Ezekiel Malcolm

Half of his accusations are complete bull shit

    56. che campbell

"Problematic portrayal of women" You mean the lovable Sharon Tate, the intelligent, kind girl actor or Rick's Italian wife who kicked ass at the end? What shiny white armour you have, Jeremy.

      1. che campbell

@Oriane GL she uses her being in the movie to get in free and you didn't refute the "kind" part. Give an example as to how she is brainless. Her family approved of Tarantino's portrayal so you're saying they approved of her being brainless... Again, gonna need an example of her not understanding anything. She quite clearly kicks ass in the last scene when she knocks one of Manson's men through a table. It might be comedic but the whole film is a comedy...did you expect her to be a serious character in a comedy? "It's not a shiny armour"? What? His portrayal of women is fine.

      2. MrParadoxium

@Oriane GL go watch kill bill and say tarantino portrays women badly

      3. Oriane GL

Sharon Tate is presentend as a brainless woman (you say "intelligent", I'd love you to give an example of her intelligence being presented in the movie): there is more attention on her feet than on her personality. Rick's Italian wife is playing the funny foreign girl who doesn't understand anything - and how is she kicking ass? It's not a shiny armour. This movie's portrayal of women is, indeed, messed up. Just an example : time.com/5645347/quentin-tarantino-women-dialogue/
